Uniform

Introduction

It is our policy that all children should wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in a school organised event outside the normal school hours. The policy specifies exactly what choices there are and what we recommend that pupils should wear. All children and families who attend Swallowdale Primary are expected to support the implementation of this policy.

Aims and Objectives

Our school values underpin all our policies and the uniform policy is no exception. We believe that a school uniform exemplifies our values in the following ways.

Clothing

  • Navy sweatshirt or cardigan, preferably with the school logo – hooded sweatshirts are not
  • White or blue polo shirt, preferably with the school
  • Grey, navy or black tailored school trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafore Leggings and cycle shorts are only to be worn for PE lessons.

  • Black shoes or smart, all black trainers – no open toes or high

 

Bags and Equipment

  • Foundation children should bring a Swallowdale School book bag to school every
  • KS1 and KS2 children should bring either a book bag or a suitable bag in which to put their reading book and water bottle.
  • Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school every

 

Hair and Jewellery

  • Children are permitted to wear a single studded earring, however these must be removed or covered for
  • Children are permitted to wear a watch to school but these cannot be Smart watches.
  • Long hair (touching shoulder or below) should be tied up at all times with minimal hair
  • Nail varnish or any other forms of makeup are not

 

Be Ready for PE

  • Plain white t-shirt with or without the school logo, but no other
  • Black/navy PE shorts, no
  • Plain black/navy jogging bottoms or leggings.
  • Plain black/navy hooded top or sweatshirt.
  • Plimsols, without laces, for children in Year R and Year 1.
  • Plimsols or trainers for children in Year 2 to 6.
  • PE bag clearly labelled with child’s

 

If children do not have the full PE kit, then they will be unable to participate in PE lessons.

 

Be Ready for Swimming

  • Swimming trunks (not Bermuda style shorts).
  • One-piece swimming
  • Goggles only with written consent from family member with parental responsibility – please contact the school office for assistance with this.

 

Be Ready for Outdoor Learning

We ask that families ensure all children are provided with suitable clothing for outdoor learning and play. In the winter months a warm coat, with a hat, gloves and scarf as appropriate. In the summer months an appropriate sun hat may be worn.

The Swallowdale Primary School uniform can be purchased by visiting www.yourschooluniform.com. Items can also be purchased from Kidzone clothing shop (Leicester Place, 11-13 Leicester St, Melton Mowbray LE13 0PP, Phone: 01664 500100).

We recognise that funding the cost of uniform can be expensive for all families. SWAF run second hand uniform sales through the year to support this.
